Monofilament Wigs and My Aunt
Wednesday, March 24th, 2010My favorite aunt had breast cancer. She underwent chemotherapy when she found out about the cancer. Unfortunately, the treatment made her weak. She was also slowly losing her hair.
I saw that she wasn’t the lively aunt that she was. She did not laugh as much as she used to. She was more careful with how she moved about the house. I guess chemotherapy does that to its patients. However, I am proud to say that my aunt is a strong woman. She may have been weakened by chemo, but her spirit never wavered. She tried to take care of her family, despite the fact that she was just recovering from her chemotherapy.
I remember seeing her put on her wig. She looked at me with her kind eyes and smiled. Little did I know it was one of the last few smiles she would bestow on me. She passed away before the wedding of her youngest daughter.
Anyway, I am no wig connoisseur, but here are a few thoughts.
Monofilament wigs are what I think my aunt used during. According to what I have found over the net, monofilament wigs are good choice for people with severe hair loss. Moreover, it is said that these wigs are comfortable and are not as itchy as other types of wigs. Apparently, a breathable type of material is used so that the scalp will not be irritated from monofilament wigs.
Having said that, I guess it would be safe to say that monofilament wigs would be perfect for those recovering from chemotherapy. Well, unless otherwise not prescribed by the doctor. But if all else is ok, I would assume that monofilament wigs will be a comfortable way for chemotherapy patients to hide their hair loss.
